Beijing (formerly romanized as Peking) is the capital city of China, and the weather in late August is usually quite pleasant. Combining both modern and traditional architectures, Beijing is one of the oldest cities in the world, with a rich history tracing back three millennia. With mountains surrounding the inland city on three sides, in addition to the old inner and outer city walls, Beijing was a perfect location for the imperial capital and has served as the political headquarter of the country for most of the past eight centuries.

The city is renowned for its famous scenic spots, including many temples, gardens, walls, and gates. It has seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites – Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven, the Summer Palace, the Ming Tombs, Zhoukoudian, parts of the Great Wall, and the Grand Canal – all are popular locations for tourism. With many of the top universities, research institutes, and High-Tech enterprises, Beijing is also renowned for higher education, scientific research, and innovation.
