Dear Colleagues and Participants of 26th ICPOC,
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to every one of you for attending the 26th International Conference on Physical Organic Chemistry (26th ICPOC), which was held from August 18 to 22 in Beijing. It was a true honour to host such a distinguished gathering of scholars and researchers in our field. This event, endorsed by the IUPAC and its subcommittee on structural and mechanistic organic chemistry (SSMC), and organized by the Department of Chemistry, the Centre of Basic Molecular Science (CBMS) of Tsinghua University along with the Chinese Chemical Society (CCS), was a remarkable success due to your tremendous support.
We were delighted to see about 500 participants from around the world, including nearly 100 international attendees representing North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Oceania. This unprecedent turnout not only highlights the growing interest in physical organic chemistry and its related fields but also reinforces the importance of international collaboration and communication.
Throughout the 26th ICPOC, we have had the privilege of engaging in enlightening discussions across various parallel sessions, including structural and reactivity studies, reaction mechanisms and synthesis, supramolecular assembly, and the integration of new technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) in chemistry. With 11 plenary lectures, 14 keynote lectures, 139 invited lectures, 28 oral and 90 poster presentations. Particularly, 26th ICPOC features a POC Youth Forum including one plenary lecture, and 11 oral lectures from young generation of physical organic chemists.
We would also like to sincerely acknowledge the significant contributions from industry sectors who not only showed their generosity to basic science but also exhibited their latest technological advancements. Their presence facilitated meaningful connections between academia and industry, fostering the effective translation of research into practical applications.
We are truly grateful for your enthusiasm, dedication, and commitment to advancing the field of physical organic chemistry. Your active participation made this conference a resounding success and demonstrated the vibrant spirit of our scientific community. We look forward to seeing you at future conferences and continuing our shared journey of discovery and innovation.
Thank you once again for coming to Beijing and making invaluable contributions to the 26th ICPOC!
Warmest regards,
Prof. CHENG Jin-Pei, Chair of the 26th ICPOC Local Organizing Committee
Prof. LUO Sanzhong, Co-Chair of the 26th ICPOC Local Organizing Committee
Dear colleagues and friends,
It is my great pleasure to extend a warm welcome to all of you to the 26th IUPAC International Conference on Physical Organic Chemistry (26th ICPOC,2024), which will be held from August 18 to 22, 2024, in Beijing, China. The conference is organized by Tsinghua University, and the venue will be at the Friendship Hotel of Beijing, a prestigious location for academic conferences and events.
Since its inception in 1972, the ICPOC conferences have been the leading international gatherings on physical organic chemistry and its applications. Traditionally, physical organic chemistry relates molecular structure to chemical behavior, by means of the study of structure, reactivity, mechanism, and equilibrium in organic systems, aiming at the quantitative, molecular level understanding of their properties. While it is still the primary role of this core discipline, nowadays, physical organic chemistry has already evolved into a multidisciplinary field, extending into materials, energy, biology sciences and so on. This comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach plays a pivotal role in the development of chemical sciences, expanding their boundaries, and reflects on the vibrant and enlightening scientific discussions usually held in ICPOC meetings. 26th ICPOC is set to be an exciting event that will bring together researchers, scientists, and professionals from various fields to share knowledge and insights on the latest advancements in physical organic chemistry. The conference will focus on four main topics: Organic structure and chemical reactivity; Reaction mechanism and application; Supramolecular assembly, and AI & New POC frontiers.
Together with an outstanding scientific program, you will be exposed to the colours, flavours, tastes, history and traditions of Beijing, the over 800 years old capital city of China.
Despite the disturbance posed by Covid-19 to more effective interactions as in regular conferences in the past, it is finally over. We are delighted that this conference has already attracted quite many renowned scholars from around the world to come, representing diverse perspectives and insights into the physical organic chemistry field. We believe that this meeting will provide excellent opportunity for exchanging ideas, networking among colleagues, and discovering the latest research breakthroughs.
I am very much looking forward to seeing you in Beijing in 2024.
Jin-Pei Cheng
26th ICPOC Chair
ICPOC conferences, held biennially since 1972, are the leading international gatherings on Physical Organic Chemistry and Chemical Reactivity. More recent ICPOC conferences were held in China (2004), Poland (2006), Spain (2008), South Korea (2010), United Kingdom (2012), Canada (2014), Australia (2016), Portugal (2018) and Japan (2022).
ICPOC meetings bring together chemists from academia and industry, who are active in the fields of organic chemistry, physical chemistry, theoretical chemistry, catalysis and supramolecular chemistry.
The breadth of Physical Organic Chemistry will be represented in the 26th ICPOC by a range of presentations in topics associated to the 4 streams of the conference: Organic Structure and Chemical reactivity. Reaction Mechanism and Application. Supramolecular Assembly, and AI & New POC Frontiers.
The scientific program of the 26th ICPOC comprise plenary lectures for all participants, followed by thematic sessions that include keynote, invited, and oral communications, followed by thematic sessions that include invited lectures and oral communications.
